St Albans Cricket Club 5XI v Mill Hill Village CC 3rd XI on Sat 28 Jun 2025 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
In an entertaining sunny afternoon clash, St Albans Cricket Club 5XI secured a comfortable six-wicket victory over league topper Mill Hill Village CC 3rd XI, thanks to a well-rounded bowling display and some composed batting under pressure.
After winning the toss, Mill Hill opted to bat first. Unfortunately for them, the top order struggled straight away. Tom Hadden (2‑19) and Prathamesh Deshpande (1‑38) exploited the early conditions perfectly, striking with the new ball to reduce the visitors to 20‑3 inside the first ten overs. The top order failed to settle, and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Veteran Tim Winfield, introduced into the attack first change, generated swing and movement—leading to key breakthroughs their most composed and settle batter who looked solid caught brilliantly by Andrew Melling on 18 ,Melling also took three sharp catches on the day. Simultaneously, a disciplined spell from young Sulaiman Nisar (2‑22) dismantled the middle order, with his first scalp a simple return catch. By the 25th over, Mill Hill was reeling at 91‑8. Amidst the collapse, Their number 8 batter Khalid Khan Musazai stood tall, playing a gritty 46 with well-timed boundaries, while Tariq Mohammadi held firm at the other end, finishing unbeaten on 25, helping the visitors to a total of 161 all out in 39.4 overs. It was disappointing to lack some runs in the middle but 5XI skipper was happy to chase 162 on nice sunny batting friendly day with strong batting line up.The pick of the bowlers for St Albans was Tim Winfield, who impressed with figures of 3-25. Tom Hadden 2-19,Sulaiman Nisar (2-22) and Mostafa Fazle Alahi (2-15) also chipped in effectively, ensuring the visitors couldn’t post a more challenging total.
In response, St Albans got off to a solid start with Hugo Thomas scoring a composed 26. The real anchor of the innings, however, was Fozan Ahmed, who struck a fluent 62,(back-to-back 50) providing the foundation for the chase.Though a few wickets fell in the middle overs — with Khalid Khan Musazai (2-28) and Shash Seem (1-31) briefly threatening a fightback — Toby Crisp remained unbeaten on 34, steering the team home with calm authority. He was well supported by Mostafa (15) as St Albans reached the target in 35.1 overs, finishing on 163 for 4.A collective team effort from St Albans — disciplined bowling, sharp fielding, and mature batting — ensured a well-deserved win. Mill Hill Village fought hard, but ultimately outplayed by the well‑balanced St Albans 5XI were simply too strong.
Player of the Match: Fozan Ahmed – for his match-winning 62 in the chase.
