Match report St Albans CC 5th XI suffered a disappointing 9-wicket defeat away to Wheathampstead CC 3rd XI despite posting a competitive total of 209/9 from their 40 overs.

After losing early wickets, St Albans found themselves under pressure at the top of the order. However, a superb innings from Daiwik Khedekar held the batting together. Daiwik remained unbeaten on 75 and anchored the innings brilliantly. He was well supported by Ali Rehber, who played an excellent knock of 39, while Md Altaf Husain contributed a valuable 28 and Hugo Thomas added 22. Despite regular wickets falling at the other end, St Albans battled hard to reach 209.
Unfortunately, Saints 5XI bowling and fielding effort was not at the level required to defend that score. Credit to Wheathampstead, who batted very well and made the most of the conditions.

Ubed Talha picked up the only wicket of the innings, finishing with impressive figures of 1 for 30 from his 8 overs. Imran Ahmed and Uvanesh Paramesh also bowled tidy spells, but we were unable to build enough pressure or create further chances.

After the first wicket fell with the score on 95, Ted Lloyd took control of the chase with a superb unbeaten century. Along with David Dabare, he guided Wheathampstead to victory in the 36th over.

The scorecard does not tell the full story. Everyone worked hard and never gave up, but we know we can perform better in the field and be more disciplined for longer periods.

While the result was disappointing, there were positives to take from the match, particularly the batting contributions from Daiwik, Ali and Altaf.

The team will look to learn from the defeat and bounce back strongly in the coming fixtures.
