Match report St Albans 4s travelled to Sadlers Mead needing just a single point to secure a second season in Regional Division A West, while their hosts, Parkfield & Headstone needed 7 points to secure second place in the ladder. So while not quite a dead rubber, neither side had much to play for.

Saints won the toss, ending the Parkfield skipper's run of 13 successful calls, and elected to bowl hoping to pick up the required point to make them safe. However, they were made to wait until the 18th over as chances went down or failed to go to hand during Winfield and Ul Haq's opening spells. It was the introduction of spin that finally delivered the breakthrough, with Nisar and Murphy picking up the wickets of the opening batsmen. Murphy's second wicket bought Virgo to the crease and he set about Saints bowlers, bludgeoning numerous 4s and 6s, racking up a half century in short order before a top edge into his face forced him from the field. As further wickets fell to Murphy and Arif, Virgo returned but only added a couple of boundaries before Arif cleaned him up for 72. Still Saints faced a tough chase with Parkfield posting an imposing 239 from their 40 overs.

Shortly after tea the threatened rain arrived, but not before Webber had perished early. James and Thomas put together a fifty stand as the drizzle got heavier, the latter collecting a trademark maximum in a rapid 40. Patel and Arif came to the wicket after James and Thomas were bowled, and compiled steadily although the increasingly rain and wet outfield meant that there was less value for their shots than in the first innings. With Saints having just passed 100, the rain grew heavier still and play was abandoned for the day, Parkfield picking up 30 pts by virtue of the faster run rate. Saints collected nine points and ensured that they finished in eighth, one place above the relegation zone.
