Match report Saints ended up on the wrong side of this fine afternoon of cricket, played with good spirit against Mill Hill Village.

Batting second, and with 212 to win in 47 overs, Saints started well enough, but lost their way in the middle, leaving too much to do for the tail. Alfie Button looked in good nick for 31, and there were another six innings of 15 or more - perhaps an indication that some better application was appropriate. At 132-7 with 11 overs left the game was gone. Having reached bonus point level 170, it was time to shut up shop, but with the last ball of the last over, Walker was given out LBW, frustrating an embarrassed Saints skipper, and giving Mill Hill victory.

Ambitiously, the skipper had earlier chosen to bowl upon winning the toss, well aware that Mill Hill had already chased down 330 this season. The opposition never really got away, but were able to build partnerships, well lead by Potter's 90. The bowling was good - Button and Winfield doing well, Ypey picking up three wickets and Walker toiling away - but with the Verulam wicket playing better than ever, and the outfield reasonably quick, 211 was posted in 53 overs. It was another fine all round effort in the field, and special mention must be made of the young(ish) quintet of Thompson, Button, Winfield, Ypey and Hay who did a great job in their respective positions.

Overall a good day's cricket, and great to see the opposition back at Clarence Park to share in an ale or two.

For Saints, the performances remain good: stick with it and better results will surely follow.
