St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 95 runs

Match report A day to forget for St Albans 1XI. With 6 changes from the previous week, the 1XI took to the field at home captained by Phil Caley, in the absence of skipper Howeson. Caley fulfilling his first duty of the day well, winning the toss and asking Holtwhites to bat first on a wicket offering something for the bowlers. UNfortunately Holtwhites got off to something of a flyer, taking 40 from the first 6 overs, the introduction of Richard O'Toole, and Dan Foster, stemming the flow of runs, and reducing Holtwhites to 92-5 after 27. O'Toole 2-9, Foster 3-27(10), and Mabuza 1-17 (10) the best of the bowling. Holtwhites finishing with 180 all out, a total maybe higher than they should have got but none the less gettable!

St Albans batting started poorly with wickets falling regularly, firstly a horribly predictable, and massively fineable runout of Michael Goodfellow (follow @JonnyHall03, @Goodfellow22 for more). Jonny Hall scored 18, opening the batting, presumably keen to avoid coming back in to discuss running between the wickets with Goodfellow. Other than that a partnership of 26 between Jacob Winfield (15), and Richard O'Toole (15) offered the only other real hope. Late resistance from youngsters Kendall and Adshead unfortunately doing little to prevent a disappointing demise to 85 all out.

Next week a visit to Hitchin requires a much improved performance to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.
