Match report The 3s capitulated embarrassingly in this late season trip to ladder leaders Pirton, failing to overcome holiday season absences on this first dry Saturday in a month.

Telkman won the toss and felt Saints' best chance for a win was batting first on a wicket that looked a touch green. Unfortunately two early dismissals put the visitors on the back foot, the top order dismantled faster than the coach's box roof at the adjacent football ground, being readied for the upcoming season. Rudlin, building on some coaching advice from Mbeks, was able to work the ball nicely to leg, but he, too, fell. From there, there was little to write home about, as almost a full house of single digit scores from 0 to 9 was registered in an inept batting performance. Honourable mentions must go to last pair Kumar and Telkman who at least showed how to defend.

To be fair, Pirton bowled well throughout, their strongest line-up available and each bowler doing what the skipper asked in a professional performance. In the field, they held their catches too, something that doesn't always happen.

In response, a 10 over pre-tea spell at Pirton was arranged. Harry Seagrave found a way through the charging bat of Howard to nab a first wicket. Murphy snuck in with two as well - well assisted by catcher Rudlin and stumper Telkman. However, the home side were able to cruise home with seven wickets in hand. After the poor efforts with the bat, it was encouraging to note that everyone put in a strong effort in the field, determined to show a better side of the team.

In a tightly packed bottom half of the divisional ladder, just 15 points separates 6th from 10th, with Saints now sitting 7th. Just three points earned on the day leaves plenty to play for over the final three rounds; improvement over to this shoddy effort is required.
