Hanwell v St Albans Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 15 Jun 2008 at 1.00pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 4 wickets

Match report After driving down a golf cart path to Hanwell CC the St Albans team found themselves in a crop circle. As for the pitch there were more undulations than the 18th at Torrey Pines. Hanwell won the toss the elected to bat. They got off to a good start untill the three paced nature of the pitch was realised and Charlie Smith's short wide one was slashed to Wish-hound at gully. That brought hard hitting Leroy "up and down" Shepard to the crease. As he went about taking apart the early St Albans bowling attack the other opener was proving hard to dislodge. Eventually Captain Fogarty threw the ball to Goodwin, who struggled early to get a breakthrough, but eventually got the opener to miss hit a quicker short ball to Sharp at mid-off. After taking some punishment and some disputable umpiring Waheed was able to conjure up the wicket of Leroy for 80-odd as well as another scalp. Jonesy then came on and also did a job, restricting runs and taking a wicket. Sharpy did well taking 2 wickets and bowling tight in the final overs as well.
St Albans began the chase poorly with Fogarty and Goodfellow nicking balls to the keeper early. Sharpy was unlucky to again toe a wide one and be caught behind. That bought the Queens Court pairing of Wischnowsky and Goodwin to the crease. They began to systematically dispose of the bowling including the 85 mile an hour thunderbolts of Leroy. When Wischnowsky pulled the sweep shot out of the bag for the first time in 3 years and got caught with a top edge the game was still in the balance. However with Martin Rowlands and Goodwin putting together another valuable partnership the game was almost won. Ater a momentary lapse in concentration Hanwell CC were spared the embarrassment of any more lost balls as Goodwin was caught on the long-on fence. Again the game was plunged into turmoil, made worse when Hancock was deceived and bowled. Waheed came in and played an important and aggressive knock to compliment Martin Rowland's careful innings. Those two held it together to give St Albans the opening win in their Chess Valley campaign. Well done Boys!
