Northwood I v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 19 May 2018 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 4 wickets

Match report After last week’s rain related frustration St Albans travelled into North London to a sun kissed Northwood where the toss was won and a decision to bowl first was made.

The game started off badly for St Albans with Winfield’s first over lasting double-digit balls. By the time Northwood reached 50 only 25 runs had come off the bat. However, White (2-27) and Vijender (1-40) had made breakthroughs. Vijender’s 10 over spell in the heat deserved more has he beat the bat on many occasions.

From this point onwards St Albans took control of the game. Capaldi (2-18) took wickets in both of his opening overs but the pressure was really being increased from the other end where Foster (10-5-13-2) bowled with control and the pressure which he exerted eventually lead to the dismissal of Northwood’s only set batsman on the day for 44. Rossen (2-17) entered the game later than usual but bowled a tight line and was rewarded with a couple of wickets including a very well taken stumping from the superb Kendal behind the stumps. When White came back to finish Northwood’s innings it saw St Albans needing 145 to win.

St Albans never looked in too much danger when chasing this total down – although it is never done easily. White (30) and Goodfellow (12) opened up with a mixture of big hitting and sharp singles. Once Goodfellow went Chanda came and went quickly leaving a little bit of rebuilding to be done from White and Howeson (19). Once White was out to one which jagged down the hill St Albans only needed 70 more to win. Howeson and Capaldi (22) saw this required total below 40 punishing the bad ball and pressurising the fielders with positive running.

However, in one over Howseon ran past one, taking a divot on a length with him and Winfield hit one straight up in the air to be caught. This saw the ever-reliable Caley (20*) stroll to the crease who made sure that the win was confirmed despite the loss of Capaldi late on.

The Bank Holiday weekend sees Bishops Stortford welcomed to Clarence park with St Albans looking to build on a good win.
