Bishop's Stortford II v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 28 Jul 2018 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 207 runs

Match report St Albans made it four on the bounce with a 207 run thrashing of Bishops Stortford. Captain Capaldi lost his second toss in a row and were put into bat on a damp green pitch following overnight rain.

The basis for the victory was set in a 198 run opening stand from Hounslow and Capaldi. This is the fourth game in a row where the opening wicket has put on 100+. The opening pair ran well putting pressure on some very abject fielding. Capaldi rode his luck at times as the aggressor of the two hitting 13 fours and 1 six on his way to his second century of the season. He was finally dismissed caught on the boundary for 113 to give Stortford their first wicket. Hounslow continued to play well and was unlucky to be dismissed for 83 having picked the gaps well and run hard as only 12 runs came through boundaries.

At this point St Albans were 224-2 off 36 overs. The next fourteen overs saw some more good running combined with big hitting. The end of the innings was centered on White who made 51 and Howson who made 21* putting on 58 runs for the 6th wicket leaving St Albans finishing with a mammoth 322 after being put into bat.

St Albans never needed to worry about the Stortford chase. Winfield (2-19) picked up two in two balls as he bowled with great accuracy in his opening spell. White (0-18) at the other end was unlucky not to pick up a couple wickets with some very close lbw shouts.

The first change bowlers of Regan (4-17) and Foster (1-20) backed up the opening bowlers giving Stortford very few opportunities to score. Regan bowled with good pace and all four of his wickets were clean bowled as Stortford struggled to lay bat on him. Dependable Foster was unlucky to only pick up one wicket as he bowled with great control. The introduction of Vijender (3-30) saw a quick end to the innings as he was able to move the ball past the batsman at ease.

The game was finished in the 34th over when one of the Storford openers was out for 55 – a curious innings in pursuit of a large total as Stortford limped to 115.

Next week thoughts turn to making it five in a row as Holtwhites visit Clarence park.
