St Albans Cricket Club Won by 11 runs

Match report Berkhamsted struggled to get a side out but cobbled together a very decent little team. Sophie Bailes lost a rock, paper, scissors contest to Charlotte Nelson and had to face the first over. They were both very composed to keep out some quick bowling at both ends. Grace and Celeste picked up the pace with a couple of boundaries and good running between the wickets. Jess Cowan, Hannah Bentley, Evie O’Grady, Jessie Nelson all continued in the same vein in keeping out accurate bowling whilst ticking over the runs. Imogen and Evie Warwick closed the innings with some great shots. On any other day the total could have been twenty more but the opposition fielded brilliantly throughout. A total of 257 to defend.

Within the team talk, everyone identified Berkhamsteds excellent fielding and made a pact to be more active and alert in the field. Co captains Grace and Celeste doing a great job marshalling the troops well.

Our bowling and fielding proved to be the difference with Jess Cowen and Imogen pulling off a couple stunning catches and every bowler threatening the stumps and making the opposition play or defend almost every shot. Berkhamsted were left to rue some inexperienced running as our slick fielding caught them off guard.

It came down to a tense last couple of overs as their final pair hit some big shots but Evie and Hannah kept their composure to bring home the win. Both wicket keepers keeping incredibly well.

It was a coaches dream of a performance and the girls should be proud of a great all round team effort acknowledged by all parents from both sides watching the game.
