Redbourn IV v St Albans Cricket Club 4XI on Sat 11 May 2019 at 13.00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 6 Wickets

Match report The 4s started the season at Redbourne. This came as something of a surprise to Hon Fixture secretary Hugo who was waxing lyrical at the meet about how nice the ground at Wheathampstead was. A damp and grassy pitch at a windswept Redbourne recreation ground was therefore something of a disappointment. Opting to bowl first Glenn and Bilal kept things tight with Glenn recording miserly figures of 1 for 6 off 8 overs. It proved impossible to keep him out of the game, dismissing the dangerous opener with a direct hit and then picking up a catch off the bowling of George Pelham. George and Khayrul then bowled nicely in the middle overs. At 94 for 4 after 26 overs we were looking in control but to be fair to Redbourne two talented youngsters then came to the crease. After a shaky start they grew in confidence and both got to fifty, taking the score to 199. James Church bowled nicely but lacked support and at tea it felt like we had given them 30 runs too many.
After the break Manny started as he meant to go on crashing the first ball of the day for 4. At 40 for no loss after 8 overs things looked good but then came yes, no, maybe, oh dear and Manny trudged from the field, showing a distinct lack brotherly love. Two quick wickets followed and those on the boundary settled in for the inevitable St Albans middle order collapse. Instead Sam Mistry and Faz put on a fine partnership, mixing some big hitting with good running between the wickets. Perhaps spurred on by the glowering figure of his brother waiting to discuss the niceties of calling when the ball goes behind square Faz got to 88 before holing out. With 30 or so still to get it could have been a tense finish but Bilal (17 not out) and Sam (49 not out) saw us home with 16 balls to spare. Sam had a difficult time with the ball but showed real character to put that out of his mind and steer us home with a virtually chance free innings. A good win with important contributions from all our juniors means we can look forward to next week.
