St Albans Cricket Club Won by 65 runs

Match report A 65-run victory saw the 4XI break a 4-game losing streak and make progress in the league.

Half centuries from Nauman ‘Manny’ Nisar and young Nick Ralfe (his first in adult cricket) saw Saints set the visitors as imposing target of 198 at a scorching SLCG and tight bowling secured the points with 5 overs to spare.

Skipper Andy Saunders won the toss and opted to bat sending in opening pair of Manny and Hugo Thomas – a scratchy start saw both batsmen struggle to find their rythmn initially before Thomas was adjudged LBW for 20. Manny found his stride and starting dominating the bowlers supported by Andy Loe who stuck around but found runs hard to come by. After Loe fell for 10 Nick Ralfe came to the crease and belying his tender years immediately looked at home playing proper cricket shots all round the ground. And as is customary during Ramadan Manny notched his 18th 50 St Albans and was soon joined by Ralfe who completed his first . A fine innings from both.

198 at tea then – it felt like a good total.

And so it proved – Saints bowlers put the ball on the spot from the off and Watford found runs hard to come by – wickets were shared around with Jon Little , Craig Roseman, Moksudul Islam and Loe all take a brace apiece and Saunders and Sammy Kumar getting the other two . Some good fielding was heartening to see with Jon Webber and Little both taking excellent slip catches.

The opposition limped to 132 before losing their final wicket in the 35th over – 65 runs short of the target .

A really good win and one that we should definitely build on moving forward.
