Match report
A traditional Sunday ‘time’ game played out on a rustic pitch in the idyllic Buckinghamshire village of Little Missenden saw the Sunday 2s play out an enjoyable draw. Incidentally, this game was against the team skippered by the guest speaker at our last season’s Awards Evening, David Tossell.

After posting a decent total of 214, which included half centuries from Todd Houlahan and Moksudul Islam (his second of the weekend), Saints were just unable to dislodge all 10 of the opposition wickets before the allocated time ran out and a draw was declared.

Saints won the toss (Skipper Andy Saunders’ first toss win of the season!) and opted to bat. Openers Todd Houlahan and Andy Loe started brightly, moving the ball around and building a comfortable foundation before Andy departed just short of reaching double figures. Naveed Ahmed joined Todd but snicked off on just 13, which bought young Moksudul Islam to the crease. Having registered his first ever half century the day before in the Saturday 4XI he proceeded to do the same again, putting in another mature display which saw him reach 60 (again) before being caught. When Todd fell on 69 wickets tumbled at regular intervals – particularly to the spin of Seth Blackmore who snaffled 5-20 - before the Saints innings concluded on a respectable 214 at tea.

The task for Saints was straightforward – bowl out the opposition to win the game. Hassan Salahin and debutate Arshdeep Singh opened the bowling, a right arm/left arm seam attack, which saw Hassan bag 3 wickets for just 15 runs in his impressive 7 over spell. David Tossell proved resilient but was finally bagged LBW by Altaf Hussain. The rain started to fall and though Saints bowling was tight and aggressive the opposition went into ‘block mode’ in a determined and obstinate effort not to lose and although we managed to get 9 of their wickets we just couldn’t get the final one to win the game before the clock ticked down and a draw was declared.

Overall then, an enjoyable friendly against sporting opposition in a lovely location with a fine tea – what’s not to like?
